First a great pop tent, will serve the purpose, and next the campfire...well we do not encourage backyard fires, however Candles will set that mood. Some people even have backyard firepitts and chiminies. Take full advantage of those. Next a fountain, for the water, as many camp near water, be it the river, or a lake.

Get to thinking, as you can use your backyard this summer and still have the fun, with out spending the cash for gas and other items.

Spring, the cool nights and the warmer days are here. Its still cool at night to wear a sweater and or a jacket, but why not bundle up and listen to a fountain and enjoy some candles, or even a back yard fireplace.

Well, for some the weather is cooling, but here in Cal, we have the heat wave and the nights are still a sweltering!

Hello!

No better time than summer for us all to think BBQ and such. Lets face it BBQ food is better for us and it keeps our homes a lot cooler. Tips for great barbeque's this summer:

When you barbecue food, be sure to cook the food all the way. Many of us tend to get impatient especially if hunger pangs set in.
When bringing out raw food to the barbecue be sure to wash your plate before putting cooked food back on the plate.
Wash any utensils you may have used in food prep, immediately this will cut down on bacteria.
Use a washable cutting board to cut up meats. This way you can stick it in the dishwasher. Wooden ones tend to hold in bacteria.
When cooking kabobs, put like items on spear. Meat with meat and veggies with veggies. This way you wont have burnt veggies and raw meats.
If using bamboo spears for kabobs soak them in water for about a half hour before putting food on them. They will not burn if you do this.

We thought that it wise to share an article for all the parents who's kids are just getting out of school and they are feeling some stress with the summer blues. This article is great for the whole family. Everyone can get in on the stress relief!

Landscaping for Stress Relief By Michele Rogers

Stress relief comes in many forms these days, from calming teas to tai chi, to breathing techniques. Many people on the go find it hard to do any thing but drink their tea and breath. Why not landscape?

By landscaping you are getting out and feeling the fresh air. You are breathing and heck bring a cup of tea, its all good. By tilling a garden on your hands and knees and taking a small shovel you can work your stress into the ground. Pick up a scoop of dirt (stress) and throw it down or till it into the other dirt.

You can dig a hole and pretend that all the dirt you took out is stress. You can pound it attack it and stomp on it. Remember this is all getting your stress out. Don’t be afraid to yell in between. It is all very helpful.

When you are done with your tilling take all the dirt in a small pile near by and hit it with the shovel. By hitting this dirt (stress) you can remind yourself that you are putting stress in its place. Stress can be a monster, so hit it really hard.

After you are done, do not get up right away, take your shoulders and shrug them and breathe. Think at this point only happy thoughts. Remind yourself that when you get up you are leaving the stress in the pile. You can’t take it with you and won't.

By taking this time for yourself and managing your stress, you will find that in a few days of this practice you are feeling better. Remind yourself often not to think about this nasty stress, only think of it when you are out there near your garden.

Getting into Barbeques

Here on the west coast seems we have had a tad of warm weather. Some of you die hards bbq all year long. There is nothing better than to put some food on the bbq and have a great dinner. One thing that taste great on the bbq is corn. YES corn. Heres a quick recipe...

Shuck the corn like normal but save the greens. Wash them and set them aside. Clean the corn.

Lay several pieces of the greens on a large piece of tin foil. Usually 4 pieces will work. Then put several pieces of butter, or margarine on the greens. Put your piece of corn on the greens and foil. Salt and Pepper your corn before the next steps.

Start to fold the tin foil and make like a boat. You will eventually wrap the whole piece of corn and greens.

Add several more pieces of butter and more of the greens.

Wrap the rest of the corn in your foil. Put it right on the bbq and hmmmm yummy corn.

Be sure you rotate your corn. This will aid you in properly cooking the whole ear.

Have a great bbq and a great dinner, with this quick and easy corn bbq recipe.

Take time to notice what type of plants you have in your backyard. If you have colorful floras you may want to stick with them. Go to the nearby nursery and purchase some like florals that will fit in with the plants that are already present. Get a special three tier outdoor planter and plant these in pots and put them in the tiers. This small planter can be kept on the deck or you can put it close to the back door, so that they can viewed more. With the new time change the days are a bit longer, sooner. In the areas with warm weather, or even in some cases some with cool climate, there are people finding themselves sitting in thier patios.

Why not make your patio your own personal stress free place? Take time to plan an area that you consider is your own and decorate it with items that make you happy. For example for those of you who have a small atrium instead of a huge yard, take time to get some colorful plants that bloom frequently during the year. If you do not know which ones hold their blooms longer, ask at the nearby nursery. If in doubt after you have asked them, then take your time and go online and check out the vast array of online nurseries. You may even find forums related to plants helpful.

Take time to string some lights. If your pocketbook is limited, dig out a string of old Christmas lights and string them. Put some candles around if you choose not to use lights. Light them when you sit out. Candles always for most have been a stress buster, so is flowing water, such as in a fountain.

We all love gardens, be it flower gardens. Flowers seem to lift all our dull spirits and seem to make us feel good. Many people now a day have allergies and it is hard to enjoy the out side. If we choose plants and flowers wisely then the bees and allergies will just fly away.
While decorating our yards it is smart to take a clip board and draw the shape of your yard. This will help you start to plan where you wish to have a seating area versus an area with beautiful floras.
Before you purchase any plants be sure to ask the local nursery which plants attract bees and which are heavy pollen producers. Do not hesitate to go online also and look up the facts that the garden center has given you. Many times they have new people that are in a hurry and may not give you the right information. Also you can go and find a forum that will help in answering your questions.
By taking your drawing of your back yard and plan out from the back of the house plan your seating closest to the back door. Then work out from there. If you do not mind some foliage that attracts bees then make them furthest from you. Let’s face it sitting and sitting on ice tea and getting stung by a bee is the pits.
By working from your back door and out you will note that you want the lowest plant closest so that you can see and enjoy the other taller ones. Planning a backyard garden is the most fun and with the right plants can be your special relaxation grounds.
